“Somewhere between the bottom of the climb and the summit is the answer to the mystery of why we climb.”

How to Join the Club
Joining the club is easy, all you have to do is get in contact and we’ll be in touch with you as soon as we can. See the FAQ below for additional details
Joining Process
-
Contact us through our inquiry form, letting us know a bit about yourself, your skill level, and why you would like to join BRC. A committee member will get in touch to arrange a meeting time at Kangaroo Point.
-
A committee member will assess your skill level to ensure BRC is a safe and suitable option for you. For more information on minimum skill requirements and equipment, read the Membership FAQs below.
-
After your assessment, you will receive the Member Details Form and can pay the annual membership fee, making you ready to climb with BRC! For more information on fees and inclusions, read the Membership FAQs below.
-
Upon completing your registration, you'll receive your BRC membership card which gives you access to exclusive discounts and perks.
You will be also invited to join the BRC private Facebook group. This members-only community is a great platform for connecting with fellow climbers, staying updated on the latest events and trips, and sharing tips and experiences.
-
The membership fee is $30 per year. It covers administrative costs and associates membership with ACAQ, the peak body representing climbers in Queensland.
The membership fee does not include insurance and we do not provide training.
It is a requirement that individual climbers take responsibility for their own safety at all times. The Club accepts no liability for any injuries that may result, as all climbing is undertaken as a private individual.

Many of our club members meet at Kangaroo Point cliff every Tuesday evening for sport and top rope climbing (weather permitting). They set up their own ropes near each other, allowing for rope sharing. Additionally, we organise monthly trips to local crags and a full trip calendar for the year, often including at least one interstate or overseas trip.
-
Subscribers must have their own harness, climbing shoes, belay device, and personal safety attachment. It is expected that each subscriber will have their own rope after a reasonable time with the Club.
-
To join the Club, you must be proficient in basic climbing skills, as we do not provide formal instruction to novices or beginners. New subscribers should be competent rock climbers or have been instructed in rock climbing by competent persons. As a minimum, you must be able to:
Tie in to a harness
Complete a pre-climbing check
Belay using a top rope
For club trips to any location except Kangaroo Point, you must also have the skills to second and clean the draws from the anchors of a climb. This is important and must be known before joining any club trips.
New subscribers who do not have rock climbing skills/experience are directed towards the many good professional organisations offering instruction. Applications are only considered from persons over 18 years with at least basic climbing experience.
-
If you are not an experienced climber but would like to learn, there are several professional climbing courses available. We recommend:

We've had a number of queries around whether children can join the BRC and/or whether the children of subscribers can climb with the Club.
As a result the Club provides these guidelines:
BRC subscribers must be 18 years old (as per the constitution)
Subscribers may bring children to any Club event, however the subscriber must ensure the safety and supervision of the children at all times, including at and around the base of the crag
Climbing areas are generally dangerous with multiple risks including rockfall. Subscribers must constantly reassess these risks for themselves and children in their care
Children are discouraged from belaying
The BRC exists for its subscribers. Parents are asked to always consider other subscribers when their children are climbing and using other member's gear. For example, it is not uncommon for climbers to be waiting for a free rope on Tuesdays at Kangaroo Point and subscribers of the Club are entitled to priority use of ropes
Subscribers are reminded that the Club carries no insurance, and is not a training organisation. Climbing is undertaken at your own and your child's risk
